South Rim Bus Tour Our
final stop was at the Bright Angel Lodge, a rustic log and stone building
with many smaller cabins surrounding it. We bought some postcards and
a pictorial guidebook at the gift shop. One post card showed the Grand
Canyon in all four seasons, giving me reason to not just return during
summers. Another series of three cards had panoramic photography all
labeled with the names of various peaks referred to as temples. There
was so much here to see and do. We learned that Mary Colter was responsible
for designing these landmarks that blended so well with their Southwest
surroundings. In addition to the Bright Angle Lodge, she had designed
the Hopi House, the Lookout, Hermit's Rest, Phantom ranch, and the Watch
Tower. The Fred Harvey Museum in the old lounge of the Bright Angel
Lodge provided a lot of history. We could have stayed there all afternoon,
but chose to save the remainder for a future overnight trip.
